MP facing voice loss after surgery shows recovery signs
Somerset MP Anna Sabine says her voice has regained much of its strength after nerve damage during thyroid surgery left her with vocal cord paralysis. Her recovery is significant after months in which she feared she might never speak confidently again, and she says the experience has encouraged her to campaign for more therapy for adults.
The Frome and East Somerset Liberal Democrat MP, 46, lost her voice after an operation in Bath in June, when a nerve to her vocal cords was damaged. She could initially speak only in a whisper and used a microphone to contribute to Parliament when it returned in September. Sabine says her voice remains wobbly and does not sound quite as it did before, but is broadly back to where it should be.
In short
- Anna Sabine’s voice has regained much of its strength.
- Nerve damage followed thyroid surgery in June.
