Canva to cut or relocate 1,271 roles in company-wide restructure
Canva will cut or relocate 1,271 roles, about 22% of its global workforce, in a major restructure. Chief executive Melanie Perkins called it the hardest moment in the company’s 13-year history; the changes reflect pressure on technology firms to remain competitive as AI reshapes the software sector.
Canva said it would reduce management layers and bring more teams together in person, but did not specify how many people would lose their jobs. Those leaving will receive at least six months’ salary, may retain healthcare cover for a further year where available, can keep their laptops and may apply for a US$10,000 start-up grant. The company did not cite AI as a reason for the restructure.
In short
- Canva will cut or relocate 1,271 roles.
- The changes affect 22% of its global workforce.
- Departing staff will receive at least six months’ salary.
