Bob Heinz, member of NFL’s last undefeated team, dead at 79
Bob Heinz, a defensive player for Miami’s 1972 undefeated team and a two-time Super Bowl champion, has died aged 79. His death matters to the Dolphins’ history: the 1972 side remains the NFL’s only team to complete a perfect season.
Heinz died in California on 31 October of natural causes, according to the Miami Herald; he had been diagnosed with heart failure four years earlier. Drafted by Miami in 1969, he played 109 games for the team and recorded nine sacks, helping its defence reach three consecutive Super Bowls and win the 1972 and 1973 titles. His family has asked for donations to the Miami Dolphins Foundation in lieu of flowers.
