Mariah Carey takes over the airwaves as California radio station goes full Christmas
Coachella Valley station 92.1 MeTV FM has replaced its usual playlist with Christmas music around two months before Christmas. Owner Brad Fuhr said the early switch, made on election day, was intended to put listeners in a better mood and help them prepare for the festive season.
The station will play holiday songs around the clock until 27 December, featuring artists such as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Mariah Carey. Other stations in Louisville and Cincinnati also began Christmas programming after Halloween. Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reportedly earns her about $2.5 million a year in royalties, according to Forbes.
