Aaron Ford wins Nevada governorship, becoming state’s first Black governor

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford defeated Republican Governor Joe Lombardo, flipping the governorship to the Democrats in a closely watched swing-state race. Ford’s win adds to the party’s gains in the midterms and makes him Nevada’s first Black governor.

With 85 per cent of expected votes reported, Ford had 51.5 per cent to Lombardo’s 44.3 per cent. Ford campaigned on affordability and economic concerns, presenting himself as a moderate after defeating a more progressive candidate in the primary. Democrats also won Nevada’s other statewide races and every contested House seat.
