Wilson returns as Wales call up uncapped Duncan
Harry Wilson returns to Wales’ squad for their Nations League matches against Norway and Portugal after missing the team since March through injury. Joe Rodon and Rubin Colwill are also recalled, while 20-year-old goalkeeper Joe Duncan receives his first senior call-up as coach Craig Bellamy looks to plan for the future.
Duncan, who has two Wales Under-21 caps, is on loan at National League side Southend United from Bristol City and replaces Tom King. Wales’ regular goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Danny Ward are 36 and 33, while King is 31. Wales are third in Group A4 after one win in four matches; they can still finish second, third or fourth, with a top-two finish securing a Nations League quarter-final place.
In short
- Harry Wilson is back in the Wales squad after an injury absence.
- Joe Duncan earns his first senior call-up at 20.
- Wales remain third in Group A4 with two matches left.
Explained simply
The Nations League is a competition between European national teams, with countries grouped by their results and playing each other home and away. Wales are in Group A4 with Norway, Portugal and another team; their final position will affect whether they reach the quarter-finals or remain in the group.
Harry Wilson, Joe Rodon and Rubin Colwill have all played for Wales before, while Joe Duncan has represented the under-21 side but is yet to make his senior debut. Goalkeepers Karl Darlow, Danny Ward and Tom King have been part of the senior set-up, and Duncan’s call-up brings a younger option into a squad whose established goalkeepers are in their thirties.
