Explained simply
Fiat is an Italian carmaker whose fortunes came under pressure after longtime chairman Gianni Agnelli died in 2003. His heir, John Elkann, became a central figure in decisions about the company’s future. In 2004, Sergio Marchionne took charge of Fiat and set about restructuring it.
Marchionne later led Fiat into a merger with the US carmaker Chrysler, creating a larger international group. Falcon is a film about that period, including Marchionne’s working relationship with Elkann and the personal cost of his career. It is directed by Marco Bellocchio and stars Pierfrancesco Favino as Marchionne.
