‘We sincerely hope Trump will continue his peacemaking efforts,’ Kremlin says of US midterm election results

The Kremlin says Russia hopes Donald Trump will continue mediating efforts to end the Russia–Ukraine war, despite Republicans’ defeat in the US midterm elections. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Trump remains president and that another round of trilateral talks is expected soon.

Asked whether a Democratic majority in both chambers of Congress could hinder Trump, Peskov called it an internal US matter. Trump said he can veto legislation passed by Congress and expressed confidence he could work successfully with Democrats. Peskov also praised Melania Trump’s humanitarian peacemaking efforts.
