‘Beef’ Creator Lee Sung Jin Sets Netflix Projects With Ali Wong, Gene Hong Under New Banner Lila Pictures

Lee Sung Jin, creator of Netflix’s acclaimed series “Beef”, has launched production company Lila Pictures under his renewed deal with the streamer and set up two projects for development. The move brings together collaborators Ali Wong and Gene Hong, while former UTA and TeaTime Pictures executive Hyunji Ward joins as the company’s senior vice-president of film and television.

The projects are “The Only Child”, a limited drama starring Wong as the mother of a professional archer pursuing her first gold medal, and “Citizen’s Arrest”, a drama series created by Hong about two neighbours drawn into solving a local crime as they face private crises. “Beef” spent five weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 and reached the top 10 in 87 countries; across its two seasons, it has earned 29 Emmy nominations and 11 wins.
