‘This Had Better Work’: Why This Folk-Country Band Sold Their House to Go on Tour
Minnesota folk trio Wild Horses sold their home and bought a van after a festival booking in 2021, committing to make touring their livelihood. Their story matters because it shows the financial and personal risks behind pursuing a grassroots music career, as well as how life on the road has shaped their songs.
The husband-and-wife founders, Jed and Ariana LaPlant, now perform with bassist Landon Pahl, who also left his day job to join them. Their nine-track second album, *The In Between*, released in October, draws on touring experiences; the band has supported acts including Charley Crockett, Trampled by Turtles and Sam Barber.
In short
- Wild Horses sold their home to pursue a full-time touring career.
- The trio’s new album draws on life on the road.
- Touring has included support slots with established roots artists.
