Trump’s wealth dented after Democrats trounce Republicans in midterms
Donald Trump’s investment assets fell sharply after Democrats won the midterm elections, adding a financial setback to his weakening political fortunes. The declines matter because the value of several Trump-linked stocks and digital tokens has been associated with perceptions of his popularity.
Trump Media shares fell 11% overnight to just over $5, their lowest level, compared with a peak of $101; Trump has reported owning 114 million shares. World Liberty Financial’s WLFI token dropped below 5 cents from a 2025 high of 31 cents, while the separate $Trump coin fell about 10% overnight to around $1.40. Despite the falls, Forbes estimated in September that Trump was $2.7bn wealthier than when he won the 2024 election; his financial disclosures also show more than $500m in crypto sales last year and ownership of 15 billion WLFI tokens.
In short
- Trump Media shares hit a record low after the midterm results.
- WLFI fell below 5 cents, down from 31 cents.
- Trump remains an estimated $2.7bn wealthier than in 2024.
Explained simply
US midterm elections choose members of Congress halfway through a president’s four-year term. Congress makes federal laws and oversees the government, so election results can affect how easily a president advances policies and how much scrutiny the administration faces.
Donald Trump is both the US president and a businessman with investments linked to his name. Trump Media operates the social media platform Truth Social, while World Liberty Financial is a cryptocurrency venture; the $Trump coin is a separate digital token. Their market prices can move with investor expectations, but they do not by themselves measure Trump’s overall wealth or political standing.
The value of shares and digital tokens can change quickly, and investors may respond to political events as well as many other factors. Trump’s reported holdings mean price changes can affect the estimated value of some of his assets, while leaving his other sources of wealth unaffected.
