A former Ambassadors Clubhouse chef is really cooking at this thrilling Indian revamp
Passerine has been revamped under chef Gaurav Bathla, who took over three months ago and replaced its costly tasting menu with à la carte dining. The New York restaurant pairs Indian flavours with familiar local influences, offering a more relaxed alternative to the city’s formal, high-profile Indian eateries.
The 77-seat restaurant opened in November 2024; its original seven-course menu cost $140. New dishes include Bombay schmear naan for $18, paneer makhmali for $32 and a short rib pot pie for $46. A crab and biryani dish for two costs $95, with king crab due to replace soft-shell crab as it goes out of season.
In short
- Passerine has shifted to relaxed à la carte dining.
- Chef Gaurav Bathla blends Indian flavours with New York influences.
