LIV Golf faces liquidation after BC Partners scraps rescue plan
LIV Golf could be liquidated after BC Partners Credit reportedly withdrew a proposed rescue investment of up to $300 million. The firm had planned to finance a relaunch, but LIV did not secure enough player commitments; a US bankruptcy court hearing scheduled for Thursday is now expected to focus on selling the league’s assets.
LIV filed for Chapter 11 protection in September after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund said it would end its funding after the 2026 season. The PIF had invested more than $5 billion since LIV began in 2022. Only four players had publicly committed to the proposed relaunch, which would have given players majority ownership and reduced the schedule; prominent players Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia have left.
In short
- BC Partners reportedly dropped its proposed $300 million rescue plan.
- LIV’s bankruptcy hearing is expected to consider liquidation.
- Only four players had publicly committed to the relaunch.
