Texas’ New Attorney General Nathan Johnson Is a Former ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Composer

Nathan Johnson, a Texas state senator and veteran litigator, was elected attorney general and is due to take office in January 2027. His election drew attention to an unusual part of his earlier career: he composed music for dozens of Dragon Ball Z episodes and films.

Johnson says he scored 67 episodes and five films, including The Tree of Might and Fusion Reborn, in the 2000s. He has degrees in physics and law, has served in the Texas Senate since 2019 and has authored at least 433 bills, more than 130 of which became law; his election came amid major Democratic gains in Texas.
