Ukraine rushes to develop defenses against Russian jet-powered drones
Russia struck a railway platform in Dnipro with a new jet-powered drone, killing at least 15 people and injuring at least 14. The faster weapon is harder for Ukraine to intercept, threatening civilians and infrastructure as Russia increases its use.
Ukraine had learned to counter the slower Shahed drones with small, inexpensive interceptor drones, but the jet-powered version flies roughly twice as fast and Ukraine has not yet developed effective defences against it. Ukraine reported more than 4,000 such drones launched in October, up from about 350 in June.
In short
- A Russian jet-powered drone strike on Dnipro killed at least 15 people.
- The new drones fly roughly twice as fast as Shaheds.
- Ukraine reported more than 4,000 launches in October.
