Woman found dead at Congarinni property as partner arrested for alleged assault

Police found a woman dead and arrested a 72-year-old man after responding to reports of an assault at a property in Congarinni, on the NSW Mid North Coast. The case remains under investigation, and no charges had been laid by Thursday night.

Officers arrived at Corella Close at about 11am on Thursday, roughly 25km southwest of Nambucca Heads, and found the woman and a man allegedly armed with a knife. Police arrested him after a struggle; he had neck and wrist injuries and was taken to hospital under guard in a serious but stable condition. The woman, believed to be in her 70s and the man’s partner, was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been formally identified.
