Instagram brings AI-assisted Edits video app to macOS desktop
Instagram has released its Edits video editing app for macOS, bringing its creator-focused tools to a larger screen and allowing users to connect an AI agent to help edit. The launch matters as Instagram expands support for longer, widescreen videos and gives creators a choice between agent-assisted and manual editing.
The desktop app can use an MCP connection to let agents such as Meta’s Muse create a rough cut from video files, which users can then refine in Edits. It adds a multi-track timeline, audio waveforms, colour grading, multiple aspect ratios and watermark-free 4K exports; it also supports Instagram’s audio library and direct publishing. For now, Edits Desktop is macOS-only, and projects cannot yet be edited across mobile and desktop, though Meta says it is working on cross-platform editing and plans weekly updates.
In short
- Instagram Edits is now available on macOS.
- AI agents can help assemble rough cuts.
- Cross-device project editing is still in development.
