Microsoft adds unpublished Copilot Chat limits for unlicensed business users
Microsoft is extending usage limits across more Copilot Chat features for business and enterprise users who do not have a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. The limits are unpublished and cannot be changed by administrators, meaning users may lose access to a feature temporarily without knowing its threshold in advance.
Copilot Chat is included with qualifying Microsoft 365 subscriptions and can use web information and uploaded files; the paid add-on also accesses work data such as emails, meetings, chats and documents. Work already under way will continue, and users who reach a limit will be told when they can try again. The rollout began on 2 November for organisations with up to 2,000 seats and is due to start on 9 November for larger ones, across web, desktop and mobile apps. Microsoft says users may be prompted to request or buy a licence, depending on their organisation’s settings.
In short
- Microsoft is adding unpublished limits to more Copilot Chat features.
- Administrators cannot adjust the caps.
- The rollout spans organisations of all sizes and three app types.
