Xbox overhauls its PC, web, and cloud apps with a faster design
Microsoft is redesigning its Xbox PC app and Xbox Cloud Gaming interfaces to make them faster and easier to navigate, particularly with a controller. The changes aim to give Xbox a more consistent feel across Windows PCs, the web, smart TVs and VR headsets.
Microsoft says the PC app launches up to 60 per cent faster, while its Home, Store and Game Pass pages load up to 50 per cent faster. The redesign adds clearer library filters, friends and party shortcuts, and refreshed animations; the cloud gaming web version gains a library tab, desktop mode, light and dark themes, and five high-contrast options. Xbox Insiders can test the PC app now, with the web update rolling out over the coming weeks and versions for supported TVs and VR headsets also planned.
In short
- The redesigned Xbox PC app launches up to 60 per cent faster.
- Cloud Gaming gets a refreshed interface across more screens.
- Xbox Insiders can test the PC app now.
Explained simply
Xbox is Microsoft’s gaming brand, spanning Windows PCs, consoles and online services. Game Pass is a subscription that gives members access to a changing catalogue of games, while Xbox Cloud Gaming lets people stream some games over the internet instead of installing them.
The Xbox PC app brings games, the store and social features together on Windows. Cloud Gaming can be used through a web browser and on some TVs and VR headsets, extending access beyond Xbox consoles and PCs.
Microsoft is seeking to make these services feel more consistent across devices and easier to use with a controller. The changes matter to players who manage their games or play through streaming, as well as to Microsoft’s effort to connect its gaming services across screens.
