LIV Golf is officially dead after bankruptcy court reveal
LIV Golf’s lawyers told a New Jersey bankruptcy court that the league will be wound down and liquidated, abandoning plans to restructure and launch a second version. The decision follows the withdrawal of a proposed $300 million investment and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund ending the funding that had sustained the league; it leaves players and staff facing uncertainty over contracts and what comes next.
The league had been backed by the PIF for five turbulent seasons, with its funding due to end after 2026. Some prominent players, including Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, had announced plans to leave, while Bryson DeChambeau had been linked to a proposed 2027 version that reportedly had 30 players lined up. LIV also paid $15.6 million to retain seven executives before filing for bankruptcy, including $6.375 million to chief executive Scott O’Neil; the court may consider whether those payments can be voided.
In short
- LIV Golf will be liquidated after its restructuring plan was dropped.
- A proposed $300 million investment was withdrawn.
- The court may review $15.6 million in executive retention payments.
