Anthropic rolls out personal finance feature for Claude
Anthropic is rolling out a beta personal finance feature for its Claude chatbot, allowing subscribers to ask questions about their finances in everyday language. The launch adds financial account connections to Claude as the company approaches a highly anticipated initial public offering.
Available this week to US subscribers on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, the feature links bank and card accounts through Plaid and can answer questions about balances, spending and bills. Anthropic says access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and the tool is not designed to offer investment advice. The company also says the feature has no ads or sponsored recommendations, and its conversations are not used to train its models.
In short
- Claude’s new finance feature is entering beta for US paid subscribers.
- Users can ask about linked accounts, spending and bills.
- Account access is read-only, and chats are excluded from model training.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
A read-only finance assistant could make routine information, such as balances, bills and spending patterns, easier to understand by letting people ask questions in everyday language. If account access remains limited and the stated privacy protections hold, subscribers may gain a convenient way to organise their finances without handing Claude authority to move or invest their money.
The case against
Connecting bank and card accounts to a chatbot creates privacy and security risks, even when access is read-only, and users may find it difficult to judge how their financial data is handled. Claude’s summaries could also be incomplete or misunderstood, so people might rely on them when making decisions despite the tool not being designed to provide financial advice.
