How to find Richard the dog in Ocarina of Time

Richard’s owner loses her dog in Hyrule Castle Town, prompting a side quest in the Ocarina of Time remake. Finding him earns a Piece of Heart, making the search a useful detour for players progressing through the game.

Visit the town at night and look for a white dog that twirls and gives a high-pitched bark when approached. Other dogs bark more deeply and briefly stand on their hind legs; Richard follows you once identified. Take him to his owner near the street leading to the city entrance. The quest becomes available after delivering Zelda’s letter to the guard in Kakariko Village following the “Princess of Hyrule Castle” quest.
