MLW’s Trevor Lee set for major high-stakes match against Yota Tsuji at Saturday Night SuperFight
MLW wrestler Trevor Lee will face New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s IWGP heavyweight champion Yota Tsuji in a non-title match at Saturday Night SuperFight. Lee says the bout is a chance to demonstrate what he can do and potentially open the door to further opportunities with New Japan.
Lee signed with MLW seven months ago and has since faced wrestlers including Kushida, Austin Aries and Místico, while holding the MLW Southern Crown Championship. Tsuji has held several major titles, including the IWGP heavyweight championship twice; a win over him could put Lee in contention for that title. The seven-match event also includes MLW world heavyweight champion Killer Kross defending his title against Josh Bishop in a last man standing match, and is available on Veeps from 8 p.m. ET.
In short
- Trevor Lee faces IWGP champion Yota Tsuji at MLW’s Saturday Night SuperFight.
- The match is non-title, but a win could boost Lee’s prospects.
- The seven-match event streams on Veeps from 8 p.m. ET.
Explained simply
Major League Wrestling (MLW) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) are separate wrestling promotions, each with its own roster and championships. Wrestlers sometimes compete across promotions, giving them a chance to meet opponents they would not normally face.
Trevor Lee joined MLW seven months ago and holds its Southern Crown Championship. Yota Tsuji wrestles for NJPW and is a two-time holder of its top men’s title, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship; this match is non-title, so that championship is not at stake.
For Lee, facing a prominent NJPW champion could help him show his ability to a wider audience and build connections with the promotion. The event also features MLW’s world heavyweight title defence, with Killer Kross facing Josh Bishop.
