LIV Golf’s last-ditch financing plan collapses, leaving scant assets in wind-down
LIV Golf’s attempt to secure fresh funding from London-based BC Partners has collapsed, and the Saudi-launched circuit says it will wind down. A restructuring expert said the deal was a last-ditch effort to keep the league operating, and its failure could leave players free to seek other tours while creditors recover little.
BC Partners reportedly made funding conditional on commitments from enough elite players, which had become uncertain. Jon Rahm agreed to leave LIV, giving up an estimated US$100 million in future guaranteed money, while Bryson DeChambeau is owed about US$5.7 million. LIV’s potential assets include its intellectual property, merchandise and contractual rights; the expert said the case could move to Chapter 7 liquidation, with limited prospects for creditors.
In short
- LIV Golf’s financing deal with BC Partners fell through.
- The league says it will wind down operations.
