Qantas and Jetstar to cut the number of flights and increase the price of fares
Qantas plans to raise fares and reduce domestic flights operated by Qantas and Jetstar as rising fuel costs put pressure on profitability. The cuts are planned for early 2027 and reflect the airline’s expectation that fuel prices will remain high.
Domestic services will be cut by four per cent, double the two per cent reduction forecast in August. Qantas estimates its fuel bill for the second half of 2026 at $3.75 billion, $150 million above its earlier estimate. It plans to expand international routes by one per cent, citing resilient travel demand, including customers redirecting trips away from the Middle East.
