Nile Rodgers Defends AI Use in Music Video: ‘We Created Everything … The AI Did What We Told It to Do’

Nile Rodgers has defended using generative AI in a forthcoming video for his version of “The Christmas Song”, after fans criticised his promotion of the technology. He says the project was created under his direction and is intended to bring some joy to ill children during the holiday season.

Rodgers said his team developed mood boards and storyboards and painstakingly created each part of the video with AI, adding that a traditional film would have cost about $100,000. He plans to release the video by 20 November and has shared stills and previews as production continues. Rodgers has previously described AI as a creative tool, while condemning its use to imitate another person’s voice.
