Russell Brand found guilty of rape and sexual assault
Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault after a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court. The verdicts concern allegations made by six women between 1999 and 2009, when Brand was a prominent entertainer; the judge said he should expect a significant prison sentence.
The jury acquitted Brand of two other rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault after deliberating for eight and a half hours. He was refused bail and remanded in custody until his sentencing on Monday. Police also say their investigation continues into further rape allegations made by two women, which Brand has been questioned about.
In short
- Brand was convicted of rape and three sexual assaults.
- He was cleared of two rape counts and attempted indecent assault.
- He will remain in custody until sentencing on Monday.
