Ocarina of Time remake reportedly reaches 60 fps on experimental PC emulator
Developing story first seen 4 hours ago
New footage from X user akakevinvro claims the *Ocarina of Time* remake runs at a steady 60 frames per second on a PC emulator, just hours after its official Switch 2 release. The claim points to rapid progress, though the game’s performance on PC remains experimental and the footage does not establish a stable, playable experience.
Earlier videos showed gameplay improving from around 20–30 fps to between 30 and 60 fps over 12 hours, with flickering and stuttering still present. The tests used Lichii, an experimental open-source Switch and Switch 2 emulator; one ran on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 64 GB of RAM and an RTX 4080. The game’s files were reportedly dumped before launch, and Nintendo has previously taken legal action against emulation projects.

Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The footage may show how quickly independent developers can improve compatibility and performance, expanding access to games and supporting technical research into how consoles work. Because the emulator is open-source and the results are experimental, supporters could argue that reporting the progress is legitimate, provided it is not presented as proof of a stable experience.
The case against
Nintendo and other rights holders can argue that running a newly released game through an emulator using files reportedly dumped before launch risks undermining their control over distribution and sales. They may also see unauthorised copying as a threat to the resources and incentives needed to make and support games, even when emulator development itself has legitimate uses.
