We Have ‘Blood of My Blood’s Most Despicable Villain To Thank for Eight Seasons of ’Outlander’
Lord Lovat’s poisoning of Ellen, intended to prevent her having a child, failed, according to actor Tony Curran. He says that failure ultimately allowed the events that lead to eight seasons of *Outlander*, making the villain’s actions central to the franchise’s story.
In Season 2, Episode 8 of *Outlander: Blood of My Blood*, Lovat arrives at a gathering celebrating Loyalist lairds and becomes interested in Margaret Grant, despite being married to Julia. Curran describes Lovat as vain, theatrical and increasingly insufferable, and says he never hesitated over poisoning Ellen’s wine; the poison did not prevent her and Lovat’s son from having a child.
In short
- Lovat’s failed poisoning helped make the *Outlander* story possible.
