Tom Jones Thought His Life Was ‘Over’ After Recent Battle With the Flu: ‘You’ve Had a Wonderful Life’

Sir Tom Jones, 86, told a Los Angeles audience that a severe bout of flu made him fear he was near the end of his life. His return to the stage after a week in hospital matters because the illness had forced several postponements on his US tour.

Jones said staff at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center had done a “wonderful job” and that performing was where he belonged. The illness led to rescheduled shows in Los Angeles and San Diego, followed by further postponed California dates on doctors’ advice; his next scheduled performance was in Highland on Friday, 6 November.
