Schoolchildren taught vital lessons of Remembrance at moving Lincolnshire ceremony
Lincolnshire schoolchildren attended a Remembrance service at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln, ahead of Sunday’s official commemorations. The event aimed to help pupils understand the service of armed forces personnel and keep the history of Bomber Command connected to younger generations.
Pupils wrote poems, with three winning entries read aloud, observed a minute’s silence at 11am and laid wreaths by the Spire Memorial. They then found a name among nearly 58,000 people commemorated on the centre’s walls and placed a poppy beside it. The 102-foot memorial is designed in the shape of an AVRO Lancaster’s wingspan.
