Asia’s new album brings completion to the last song Geoff Downes started with John Wetton
Geoff Downes has completed “Tattoo Indigo”, an unfinished song he began writing with Asia bandmate John Wetton, and included it on the band’s new album, *Indigo*. Wetton died of cancer in 2017 while the pair were working on music after 2014’s *Gravitas*, leaving Downes unsure what to do with the track.
Downes later retrieved the recordings and worked on them with new Asia member Harry Whitley, who takes Wetton’s place on bass and vocals. He says he believes Wetton would have been proud of the finished song, which has a 1970s feel and a middle section recalling The Moody Blues and The Beatles; John Mitchell plays the guitar ending. *Indigo* also features former member Steve Howe and Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy, as well as another unfinished Wetton collaboration.
