NYPD officer solicited woman for sex in car — then pointed gun at her when she refused: DA

An off-duty NYPD officer has been arrested after allegedly offering a woman $60 for oral sex in his car and pointing a gun at her when she refused. The allegations raise concerns about the conduct of an officer who had joined the department the previous year.

Prosecutors say Joel Perez Leonardo, 25, was found behind the wheel of his running car in Hunts Point at about 2.30am on Wednesday. He allegedly appeared impaired, refused a breathalyser test and told police he had been at a bar and had a few drinks. He faces charges including menacing, driving while intoxicated, patronising a person for prostitution and harassment; he was released under supervision, with an order of protection, and his driving and gun licences were suspended. The NYPD suspended him without pay, and his next court appearance is scheduled for 7 January.
