It’s Official: Alex Cooper Moves to CAA
Alex Cooper, host of the podcast Call Her Daddy, has signed with CAA, which will also represent her husband, Matt Kaplan, and their company Unwell. The move follows her departure from UTA in August and is intended to support Unwell’s growth across entertainment and business, beyond podcasting.
Unwell was valued at $500 million after an investment from WTSL, a firm backed by Silver Lake. Its projects span podcasts, film and television, live events and YouTube competition series; upcoming work includes Netflix adaptations of Icebreak and Deep End, and a Hulu drama in development starring Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. The signing comes amid reports of staff turnover and unease at the company, including claims concerning Kaplan.
In short
- Alex Cooper and Unwell have signed with CAA.
- The agency will also represent Matt Kaplan.
- Unwell was valued at $500 million after an investment.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
CAA’s representation could give Cooper, Kaplan and Unwell the relationships and expertise to expand into film, television, live events and other businesses. After Unwell’s reported $500 million valuation and investment, a major agency may help turn that ambition into projects and opportunities beyond podcasting.
The case against
A high-profile agency signing does not itself show that Unwell’s plans are commercially sound or that its internal challenges have been resolved. Reports of staff turnover and unease, including claims concerning Kaplan, may lead observers to question whether rapid expansion is sustainable and whether the company is addressing those concerns.
