California shoppers freak over popular Canadian supermarket’s first city mega-location
T&T Supermarket, a popular Canadian Asian grocery chain, opened its first San Francisco store on Thursday, drawing large crowds and long queues. The roughly 50,000-square-foot site marks the chain’s fourth US location in two years and gives the city a new destination for Asian foods and groceries.
The store occupies a former Best Buy in the City Center complex on Geary Boulevard, a space that had stood empty since 2017 after Whole Foods abandoned plans to open there. Shoppers can find around 200 varieties of vegetables, 17 kinds of mushrooms, fresh seafood and meat, dim sum, a café and beauty products. T&T was founded in Vancouver in 1993 by Taiwanese Canadian entrepreneurs Cindy and Jack Lee.
