Democratic Missouri state rep accused of threatening to kill someone — a day after winning re-election
Missouri state Representative Anthony Ealy Jr. was arrested after witnesses said he threatened to kill someone outside a Jefferson City business, a day after winning re-election. He denies making threats and says he was pushed and chased with a bat; police and witnesses gave a different account, and the allegations have not been resolved.
According to a probable cause statement, the incident happened around 11.30am on Wednesday as a family arranged a funeral. Ealy, 32, was charged on Thursday with misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace, booked into Cole County Jail and released by Friday. He won a third term on Tuesday with 68% of the vote; he had been removed from all committee assignments last spring, and Democratic leaders had asked him to consider letting someone else run.
