GOP counts a few more wins in House races — but Democrats still have massive majority
Several closely contested US midterm House races were called for Republicans on Friday, including three seats in Colorado, Arizona and New York. Democrats still held a large lead in called races, though 19 seats remained undecided and could affect the size of their majority.
The Associated Press had called 254 House races for Democrats and 162 for Republicans, with Democrats leading in about half of the outstanding contests. Republicans Lauren Boebert, Brand Finstad, Scott DesJarlais and Virginia Foxx faced close races; Boebert’s campaign said it expected a recount. In the Senate, Alaska and Mississippi remained uncalled, with Democratic candidates ahead by 0.3 percentage points in each, while Democrats had secured a 54–44 majority.
In short
- Republicans gained a few House wins as more races were called.
- Democrats led 254 to 162, with 19 House races unresolved.
- Two Senate contests remained close, though Democrats held a 54–44 majority.
