Best small electric car to drive in UK named – not Ford, Audi or Peugeot
Autocar named Volkswagen’s ID Polo the best small electric car to drive in the UK, praising its range, rapid charging, comfort and ease of use. The result matters as buyers have more small electric models to choose from, while the industry faces pressure to increase EV sales under government targets.
Priced at £23,945, the ID Polo has a WLTP range of 200 to 281 miles and 441 litres of boot space. Reviewers criticised its plain interior colours, cheap-feeling plastics, less agile handling than some rivals and reduced motorway range. Separately, SMMT data showed almost one in three new UK cars registered in October was electric; its chief executive said progress remained insufficient to meet the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate.
