Not playing at Man City ‘horrendous’ – Trafford
James Trafford has described being left out of Manchester City’s team as “horrendous”, saying regular football was important for his mental wellbeing. After joining Leeds United in the summer to play more often, he has started every league match so far, helping the club climb to 12th.
City re-signed the 24-year-old in July 2025, but Gianluigi Donnarumma soon became first-choice; Trafford made only one further Premier League start after his first three matches. He nevertheless says he learned a great deal and won the League Cup and FA Cup, starting both finals. Leeds paid up to £45m for him, a British-record fee for a goalkeeper, and he has kept three clean sheets in nine league starts.
