Navy veteran blindsided as attacker could land parole hearing months after sentencing: ‘Where is my justice?’
A Virginia Navy veteran has learnt that the man who raped her in 1992 may receive a parole hearing only months after being sentenced for the crime. The prospect has left Amy distressed and questioning how a review is possible so soon after what she understood as a 24-year sentence.
Anthony Favors, now 57, pleaded guilty in September 2025 to two rape counts linked to Amy’s case, receiving consecutive 12-year terms. DNA evidence connected him to the cold case in 2024, while he was serving a 60-year sentence for another rape. Prosecutors say older Virginia sentencing laws and a previous parole review make him theoretically eligible for a discretionary hearing, though they put the chance of release at “slim chance to zero”. Amy lives with PTSD, sleep deprivation and hypervigilance, and says a hearing would require her to recount the attack again.
In short
- A Navy veteran’s attacker may face a parole hearing months after sentencing.
- DNA evidence linked Favors to a 1992 rape cold case.
- Prosecutors say release is highly unlikely, but a hearing could retraumatise Amy.
