Gunman opens fires at Poland market square leaves several people dead, injured

Five people were killed and more than a dozen injured when a gunman opened fire in Krakow’s busy Main Square on Saturday. The attack struck a major tourist area and is significant in a country where mass shootings are uncommon.

Police said the gunman drove into the square and fired at random people, then was shot and wounded in a confrontation with officers nearby. Police officers were among those hurt; authorities said the attacker acted alone and the public was safe. Police found weapons and ammunition in his car, and a tram driver also reported that the moving car had fired at his vehicle.
