I hired humanoid robots to clean up after a wild houseparty for for $100 — here’s how it went
Linda Akkarach, a San Francisco resident, hired two humanoid robots from Tau Robotics to clean up after a house party, but found they did a poor job. The trial suggests that, for now, robots are not ready to replace human cleaners, particularly for detailed household tasks.
The robots cost $50 an hour and worked for about an hour in Akkarach’s two-storey loft, with a technician present and another person controlling them remotely. One fell over after 15 minutes; the other managed to vacuum and mop a small area, wipe two tables and put a wooden stick in the bin, but failed to clean a bathroom sink properly.
In short
- Two humanoid robots struggled to clean a San Francisco loft after a party.
- The service cost $50 an hour and included human assistance.
- One robot toppled over after 15 minutes.
