SuBo says mental health charity helped her with day-to-day tasks after mum’s death
Singer Susan Boyle has said mental health charity Penumbra helped her manage everyday tasks after her mother’s death left her struggling to cope. She described being isolated and lacking basic necessities before the support helped her regain stability, highlighting the practical help some people need during bereavement.
Boyle said she had no electricity or gas, little food and weighed about six and a half stone. Her mother died two years before Boyle auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, a step she said was driven by a wish to improve her life. She has since sold more than 21 million albums worldwide and received an Icon award at the Scottish Music Awards in Glasgow.
