Mass Effect Cast Celebrates N7 Day With Video Asking Fans to Help Save the Franchise
Mass Effect voice actors, composer Sam Hulick and other contributors have released an N7 Day video urging fans to “Save Mass Effect”. The message follows the reported closure of BioWare, cancellation of Mass Effect 5 and suspension of the franchise’s gaming future, leaving this year’s annual celebration without official festivities.
Organised by fan group We are Mass Effect, the two-minute video includes performers such as Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, Brandon Keener and Steve Blum. Fan efforts also include a petition with more than 310,000 signatures and billboard campaigns near EA’s headquarters, former BioWare offices and Times Square; Owlcat Games has also voiced support for BioWare and the series.
In short
- Mass Effect cast members called for the franchise to be saved.
- A fan petition has passed 310,000 signatures.
- Support has included billboards and messages from other developers.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Fans and contributors can reasonably argue that the video and campaign keep a valued science-fiction series visible and show publishers that there is sustained interest in its return. A petition and other peaceful, public expressions of support may help preserve the franchise’s legacy, encourage future investment, and give fans a way to celebrate a community that has grown around the games.
The case against
Others can reasonably argue that a franchise’s future depends on commercial and creative decisions by its rights holders, and that public campaigns cannot guarantee a worthwhile new game. They may also see the reported cancellation and studio closure as reasons to accept that plans have changed, while recognising that former staff and creators should not be pressured to continue work or revive a series.
