Notre Dame fends off Miami as another No. 1 team falls again
No. 4 Notre Dame beat top-ranked Miami 31-24, avenging last season’s narrow defeat and keeping its College Football Playoff hopes alive. The Irish built a 21-point lead, then held off a late Miami comeback without ever trailing.
CJ Carr threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, while Miami quarterback Darian Mensah threw three scoring passes. Miami’s potential go-ahead touchdown was ruled incomplete on fourth down with 3:36 left. The loss leaves Utah and UCLA as the only unbeaten teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision after nine games, the fewest at this stage since 2003.
