Saudi Arabia intercepts Houthi missiles targeting Riyadh, Eastern province
Saudi-led coalition air defences intercepted missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi group towards Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh and the Eastern province. The interceptions come amid renewed fighting in Yemen, raising tensions across the region.
The coalition spokesperson said three ballistic missiles were destroyed, including two aimed at Riyadh, and later reported intercepting two cruise missiles in Riyadh and the south. The Houthis also claimed attacks on Saudi facilities and positions. The sides dispute responsibility for recent deadly strikes in Yemen; reports of casualties have not been independently verified. The UN says more than 1,600 people have been killed and nearly 300,000 displaced since the 2022 ceasefire collapsed.
