Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production after sales slump
Elon Musk says Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around mid-2027, using more of the facility to build Cybercabs. The move marks a shift for a vehicle once promoted as a major part of Tesla’s future, but the company has not said whether production will move elsewhere or end entirely.
US sales have fallen from an estimated 38,965 in 2024 to 20,237 in 2025, a 48% drop; 11,586 were sold in the first nine months of 2026, down 28% year on year. Early reservations did not translate into lasting demand, while prices rose: the Premium AWD starts at $92,490 before fees, after the Dual-Motor AWD price reached $82,490 and new orders were paused.
