BC Partners seeks control of LIV Golf from Saudi wealth fund, FT reports
BC Partners is seeking to gain control of LIV Golf’s bankruptcy process by acquiring a $50 million loan from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Financial Times reported. The move could give the private equity firm another chance to create a successor to the breakaway circuit, which said it would wind down after a proposed financing deal collapsed.
LIV filed for bankruptcy protection after PIF, which had invested more than $5 billion, said it would stop funding the circuit after the 2026 season. BC Partners had previously considered up to $300 million to stage tournaments in 2027, but that plan faltered when prominent players declined to commit; the FT said between 15 and 40 showed varying interest. Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed are among the high-profile golfers who have left since the filing, and Reuters said it could not immediately verify the latest report.
In short
- BC Partners is seeking a $50 million loan from PIF.
