Eisenkot says any party involved in next government must commit to action on Hamas
Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot said parties could join a national emergency government if they recognise Hamas as a terrorist organisation and commit to dismantling its military and governing capabilities. The proposal comes as he seeks to form a government after the anti-Netanyahu bloc’s success in recent elections.
President Isaac Herzog has given Eisenkot six weeks to try to form the next government. Eisenkot said Israel could not afford more delays or repeated elections, citing urgent challenges and what he called a destructive diplomatic crisis, with close allies reconsidering their ties with Israel.
