X is making a fresh push for live video with new creator payouts

Engadget · 6 days ago

X is attempting to boost live streaming on its platform by rolling out a new creator payment program and a dedicated Live Studio tool. The company has committed $1 million to reward creators who participate in live streaming during the next cycle, though specific payout structures remain to be detailed. The Live Studio command center, integrated into Creator Studio, aims to simplify the live streaming process with a more user-friendly interface.

The platform's new live streaming tools allow creators to schedule broadcasts, set custom titles and thumbnails, and control who can view their content—restricting access to verified users, followers, or paying subscribers, or opening it to the general audience. Creators can also monitor real-time engagement metrics including viewer counts, geographic distribution, and device types used. However, live streaming remains behind X's $3-per-month Premium paywall, and the platform's history with live features is mixed; previous high-profile attempts, such as a 2023 DeSantis announcement and a 2024 Musk-Trump conversation, suffered from infrastructure failures that left users unable to access the streams.

  • X launches Live Studio with $1M creator payout fund to encourage live streaming
  • New tools enable scheduling, audience control, and real-time viewer metrics
  • Feature requires Premium subscription ($3/month); past live events have experienced outages
